Dr. James Tiede receives Tradition of Caring Award The 2011 Tradition of Caring Award was presented to James J. Tiede, MD, at a Rice Health Foundation donor recognition dinner on May 19, 2011. Dr. Tiede received the award "In Recognition of Outstanding Volunteer Service, Generous Giving and Devotion to Healthcare." In addition to his philanthropic gifts, he has volunteered at Camp G.K. Bear, and has served three three-year terms on the Foundation's Board of Directors - the maximum term allowed. "It's been an honor to serve on this Board," he told dinner guests. "There are tigers on this board - they are full of great ideas. I've appreciated this board and this hospital very much." Dr. Tiede practiced full-time in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Willmar, retiring from Affiliated Community Medical Center in 2002. During his 30 year career, he served on many committees and boards – for both the clinic and hospital, as well as his professional associations. He served Rice Hospital as Chief of Staff from 1997 to 1999. He came out of retirement recently to work part-time as the Rice Hospice Assistant Medical Director in 2009. He has served his community well over the years, including many leadership posts and activities with the Willmar Area Chamber of Commerce, Vinje Lutheran Church, Willmar Noon Lions – just to name a few ways. He began his service on the Foundation Board right after his retirement in 2002. "When I retired, I received a lot of advice to say 'no' to everything for a year, but I started the Foundation Board the day I retired," said Tiede. "Dr. Tiede has served on the Foundation Board nine years," said Dr. Lachlan Smith," current Board Chair, as he announced the 2011 award recipient to the group. "He has been a great leader on the board, and a great example to others with his enthusiasm for healthcare and his willingness to share his vision. "He has generously supported the healthcare community, Rice Hospital, and Rice Health Foundation with his generous gifts of time, talent, and expertise -- as well as financial support to enhance healthcare." Rice Health Foundation established the Tradition of Caring philanthropy award in 2009 to recognize individuals who display a great passion for the mission of enhancing healthcare programs and services. The 2009 recipient was George Coulier for his loyalty in donating to the hospice program. In 2010, the award went to Kathy Nedrelow for her outstanding volunteer service and philanthropic support. |
