| Building on Tradition: 2010 Grant Recipients |
|||
|
In the fiscal year 2010, Rice Memorial Hospital received more than $400,000 from Rice Health Foundation to support a variety of programs and services, as well as technology and equipment. These grants are made possible by your donations to Rice Health Foundation designated funds and endowments. Your generosity supports the vitality and quality of care at Rice Memorial Hospital, while improving the health and well-being of the people in west central Minnesota. The Rice Health Foundation Endowment was established to provide a stable and consistent source of funds to help meet the changing needs in health care. The Endowment provides more than $118,000 of the total. All of this great work in our community happens through the dedication of our friends and neighbors, and through the generosity of people just like you. |

Rice Inpatient Services Rice now has computers to chart patient care and progress at every bedside, as well as barcode technology to administer medications safely and accurately according to a patient's medical record. Hand-held equipment scans the patient's wrist band to ensure the right dose of the right medication is delivered to the right patient at the right time. Having computers by every bed nearly eliminates potential charting and medication errors and provides real-time progress to care providers. |
Willmar Community Senior Network The Living at Home Block Nurse Program utilizes volunteers to serve community elders with the intention of helping them be able to remain independent in their community, safely, in good health, and at home. |
Rice Care Center Psychosocial rehabilitation services address the mental, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of Rice Care Center residents. In a group environment, occupational therapists assist residents in developing positive psychosocial concepts, process personal situational changes, and modify personal leisure tasks. |
Rice Education and Training Offering educational materials in the primary language of Spanish-speaking and Somali-speaking patients helps them understand important information during treatment, as well as succeed at home healthcare tasks upon discharge from the hospital. |

Rice Laboratory Services Extra measures must be taken during the care of a child to ensure their trust. It takes special people and special tools to offer the most comfortable care to our youngest patients. Rice now has an AccuVein device that lights up the veins beneath the skin, making them easier to locate and access when starting an IV or drawing blood for tests. This state-of-the-art equipment limits the discomfort for our pediatric patients during invasive laboratory procedures. |
Falls Prevention Community Collaborative Prevention is key in helping people stay independent in their homes. Rice provides education and information to the public - individuals and healthcare providers - to make them aware of how to prevent falls at home, work, and in public places. A special program made possible by the collaborative is the free Home Safety Visit conducted by Willmar Ambulance for residents in the City of Willmar. |
